Lander – Product photography for last minute placement and color correction in a commercial
1. Research
The client, Lander, was not satisfied with the way the product appeared in the final commercial. The textures lacked clarity, the overall image looked too dark, and the colors did not accurately represent the product. However, the commercial had already been filmed, and the original product shots had been captured on location.
The primary objective was to highlight the aspects that were not adequately represented in the original commercial: the true colors, fine textures, and product details. By creating clean, high-quality images, the new visuals could be seamlessly integrated into the final edit while ensuring the product appeared more attractive, accurate, and visually compelling.
2. production
My initial approach was to photograph entire product ranges together, replicating the positions shown in the reference material. However, it quickly became apparent that treating each product individually would produce significantly better results. By photographing each item separately, I was able to optimize lighting, control reflections more effectively, and capture the unique colors, textures, and details of every product with greater precision.
This approach ultimately provided higher-quality assets and greater flexibility during the post-production and compositing stages.
Angles
During the production process, I explored multiple camera angles to provide flexibility in case the client preferred a different perspective from the original reference. To make this possible, I used a rotating platform, allowing me to quickly shoot various viewing angles and compositions for review and approval.
Editing
Using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, I completed the raw processing, color correction, retouching, and compositing required to create the final assets. The individual product photographs were refined and combined into a high-resolution group image with a transparent background, ready for integration into Lander's commercial.
The final step was creating a custom AI-assisted color LUT to match the commercial's existing color grade and visual style. This ensured seamless integration of the new product images, maintaining consistency and a cohesive look throughout the final edit.
3. Results
Throughout the editing process, special attention was given to maintaining accurate colors, enhancing textures, and preserving fine product details while ensuring a clean and polished appearance. The transparent-background deliverable provided the production team with maximum flexibility for integration into the existing footage.
